International Women’s Week: interview with 5 Itineris power women – Abigail
March 8, 2022
In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’ve interviewed 5 Itineris powerwomen and talked about their career path, gender equality in the workplace and about the women who are an inspiration to them.
During this International Women’s week, we’ll be sharing their stories with you, because we believe together we can #BreakTheBias.
Today: Abigail Qin, Service Delivery Manager at Itineris.
Discover what you are good at
When you are young, it is sometimes difficult to know which direction you want to go, and it was no different for me. It was actually my college professor that suggested I should become an IT consultant and major in Business Technology Management, and I am still very grateful for that advice. After my studies, I went on to work as a Software Consultant with a software company and a few years later I joined Itineris as a Functional Consultant.
Since I joined the company 5 years ago, I have transitioned to various roles such as Lead Consultant, Service Delivery Lead, and then recently Service Delivery Manager.
Grow and foster growth in others
I strongly believe in pursuing your passion, continuous learning, keeping your brain sharp, and efficiency in time management. That’s what made me grow in my role. The onboarding and mentorship programs have also been paramount in my growth. I’ve transitioned from being a mentee over the years to being a mentor. It is an extremely rewarding experience to be able to grow but at the same time, foster growth in others.
During this growth path, I have never had the feeling that being a woman served as a disadvantage to me. I am glad to work in a company that truly cares about its employees and their concerns. Finding the right balance between work and private life is not always easy. When I brought up the frequency of travel as a source of distress for example, I was offered a lateral move to the service delivery sector, which has minimal travel but still enables me to work with the clients I love.
Women I look up to
There are many women I look up to. One of them is Ruth Bader Ginsburg, otherwise known as the Notorious RBG. She is the second female to be appointed supreme court justice and throughout her career, fought for gender equality and strived to overturn civil rights violations.
My word of advice to women at the start of their career
If I could give one tip to any woman starting their career: always speak your mind and stand up for yourself and for others. Pursue your passion, and don’t be afraid of failures – it is just another opportunity to do better next time.
