Learn why Stephen made the switch.

Meet Stephen, a Functional Consultant who joined Itineris seven months ago after working as a Systems Analyst at one of the largest public power utilities in the U.S. We sat down with him to explore his journey, motivations, and insights.

Hello Stephen. Can you share how you first learned about Itineris?

I was planning to move away from the service territory I was working in at my previous employer. My desire to stay in the utility industry, combined with the need for flexibility, led me to explore new opportunities. When I discovered Itineris, it checked all the boxes for me.

“My understanding of utility processes, meter-based infrastructure, and how it all relates to the system enabled me to hit the ground running at Itineris. It has been a considerable advantage that I speak the same language when talking to peers and customers.”

Sounds great! Can you elaborate on what you were doing at your previous job and how you experienced the switch to an IT company?

My previous role primarily involved enhancing processes and implementing new systems. Although Itineris’ UMAX solution has its unique spin as a Microsoft Dynamics 365-based system, it is very similar to many systems I worked with in the utility industry. That made the transition relatively easy.

Moreover, the open communication and willingness of colleagues to answer all my questions made the onboarding process much smoother than at other places I’ve worked.

Last but not least, my understanding of utility processes, meter-based infrastructure, and how it all relates to the system enabled me to hit the ground running at Itineris. It has been a considerable advantage that I speak the same language when talking to peers and customers.

Can you tell us more about what you have been doing at Itineris so far?

Of course! I am currently working on a new design for the Customer Self-Service Module at one of our customers in North America. I’ve recently taken over as the primary lead for that project. My responsibilities include holding design workshops to gather requirements, configuring those requirements, and conducting confirmation workshops, where I present the new design and ensure it meets the customer’s approval before moving forward. The interaction with the customer and helping them solve problems really energizes me.

Additionally, I’ve been assisting in onboarding junior team members, which I thoroughly enjoy.

“I now get to focus on what I truly enjoy: improving processes, engaging with end users and customers, and actively solving their issues.”

Sounds great! How is Itineris standing out for you?

I appreciate the flexibility of remote work and the positive atmosphere among colleagues. Working with my Belgian counterparts has been a unique and pleasant experience. Itineris’ stable system, ease of modification, and regular updates have truly exceeded my expectations. Leadership has been really supportive too. It’s an awesome place to be.

We’re very happy to hear that! To close, reflecting on your journey, what differentiates your current experience from your previous roles?

Several key differences stand out. First and foremost, I now get to focus on what I truly enjoy: improving processes, engaging with end users and customers, and actively solving their issues. This dynamic aspect keeps my work interesting and far from repetitive, unlike some traditional utility environments.

Moreover, at Itineris, I feel empowered. When a customer presents an issue or suggests an improvement, I can delve into finding a solution. And if I can’t personally assist them, I know there’s always someone within the company who can lend support. This collaborative and empowering environment enables me to confidently tackle challenges and contribute to our solutions.

Very inspiring to learn about your journey, Stephen. Thanks for sharing your insights!
